About Cheryl Miles

hello!

When she's not in the limelight, this well-known Radio DJ, emcee, voice talent, entertainer and closet introvert, is at home unwinding with cooking and candles. She loved it so much that, in September 2023, she left behind 16 exciting years on-air, to turn her hobbies into her side hustle with “The Smitten Collection”, a luxury range of small batch non-toxic beeswax candles (with a touch of coconut wax). The author of 3 self-published cookbooks (and a nutrition coach in training), you'll find some useful recipes here too. Living her best life in her 40s, she resides in Singapore with her American husband and plans to soon expand on her offerings under her company Miles Nixon Media, to provide media consultancy services to other business owners and professionals.

How did dating get so complicated? Here’s my take:

If you’ve met on a dating app, the first face-to-face is a meeting, not a “date.” Splitting the bill is fair—after all, you might not even want to see each other again! Paying your share maintains boundaries and shows mutual respect.

But should there be a second outing, then it’s a “date,” and time to find out if you share enough of the same values to become each other’s life partners - that’s when I think it’s okay to let him woo you and pay for things.

It’s not simply about paying for dinner. It’s about paying attention to how he handles his money and time because it can reveal so much—how he values you, his work ethics, his priorities, and even his views on love.

Some men flash cash to show off (👎🏼hard pass). Others use money to seduce (🚩). But a man who uses his resources to care for you and show he’s willing to provide? That’s gold… and I’m diggin’ it. 💛🤣

Cos the truth is, it’s never about the money 💰 …but the food!! 🍴😂

Moral of the story: Splitting 50/50 only gets you 50/50 ROI. Look for someone who matches your 100%.

Nobody wants to be treated like a meal ticket or feel taken for granted. Generosity of spirit is more than who pays for what but about being life-giving & open-hearted. You can’t do that if you are calculative or you feel like you have to keep score.

✨Mushroom & Tofu Glass Noodle Salad with Peanut Butter Dressing✨

FOR THE DRESSING
1/3 cup olive oil
1/3 cup honey
1/3 cup peanut butter
2 tablespoons soy sauce (or more to taste)
1/3 cup water (add more if needed)
Juice of 1/2 lemon
20g parsley
2 green chillies
30g ginger
6 cloves garlic
➡️ blitz with an immersion blender & store in a jar in the fridge

FOR THE SALAD
210g glass noodles
150g mushrooms
200g firm tofu
2 teaspoons olive oil
1 carrot shredded raw
300g shredded white cabbage raw
50g coriander
30g spring onion
1 cup peanuts
➡️ Airfry the mushrooms & tofu & cook the glass noodles as per packet instructions. Then assemble as desired. I added some fish sauce for more umami. You could also add fresh basil & mint leaves!

This English Muffin Chicken-Tofu-Chickpea Patty with Sauerkraut is #highprotein, #highfibre & so delicious.

FOR THE PATTY
1kg/2.2lbs chicken breast, sliced
400g/14oz lean pork loin, sliced
450g/16oz firm tofu (tau kwa), diced
400g/14oz canned chickpeas + liquids (aqua faba)
6-8 cloves garlic
3 tsp ground lemongrass, bottled
2 green chillies, deseeded
big bunch of herbs - basil, parsley, coriander, spring onion
2 tsp salt
2 tsp avocado oil
1 heaping tbs tomato paste

In a food processor, blend everything until minced. Work in batches! Freeze half the portion in a ziplock bag as you will need to cook these within 2 days. Use spoons to shape the patty. Drizzle with olive oil and crack of pepper then airfry for 8 min at 180ºC/356ºF and then 5 min at 200ºC/400ºF or until golden brown. Makes 20 patties.

#throwback to last Saturday where we hung out with supermodels, enjoyed too much wine and made a bid at the private auction for a villa for 8 in Phuket… and WON! 🎉

Was a fancy and fun evening raising funds for @downsyndromesingapore featuring a meaningful fashion show by @pamagency with iconic faces like @patforpam @patkraal Singapore’s first supermodel to walk the runways in Paris and is still dazzling as ever and the ever-beautiful and inspiring Ms Singapore Universe 1987, speaker, coach and author @marionnicoleteo.

I was also so stoked to finally meet @suzyfromsingapore whose IG account i follow avidly & to hang out with media/TV friends @jasminalimina @justinemoss @galenyeo69 & @sheilawyatt. 🤩

We were also charmed by our very eloquent Speaker for Parliament, Mr @seahkianpeng who called for more inclusion, reminding us that “every individual deserves the opportunity to thrive and be celebrated for who they are.”

▪️1 in 700 babies are born with down syndrome in Singapore and their life expectancy has gone from 20 to 60.
▪️While they have a naturally happy go-lucky disposition, the extra chromosome means they are 50-80% more likely to get dementia compared to the majority of the population who face a 10% risk.

What an absolute honour to have emceed 🎤 the launch of “Empower Her”, the theme for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2024 alongside their #byherside #fightbreastcancer social media campaign. @bcfsg @tantocksenghospital

🩷 The wonderful Ms Jane Ittogi graced the event as our Guest-of-Honour and gave an inspiring speech about how studies have shown that women having children later in life can put us at a higher risk for developing breast cancer. She also reminded us of the importance of eating well, exercising regularly, being by the ocean or close to nature often and surrounding ourselves with positive friendships.

🩷 Meanwhile, @dr_juliana_breastsurg opened the event emphasising how early detection saves lives and while better treatment and emotional support have seen a drop in death rates, we must continue to remind each other to go for regular screenings and do our monthly self-examinations.

🩷 The highlight for me, however, aside from fangirling over Ms Ittogi, was the Walk of Resilience featuring a bevy of beauties at different stages of battling breast cancer. The ladies strutted their stuff on the pink catwalk exuding so much courage, confidence and tenacity that the audience could not stop cheering and applauding. All that #girlpower got this seasoned #emcee a little emotional and i wasn’t ashamed to admit it! 😝

🩷 Look out for a month-load of activities including a festival and the moving Mammobus where i learnt some other shocking facts thanks to survivor @quppie.
▫️While the official numbers state that cancer strikes 1 in 13 women in their lifetime, the actual figures are closer to 1 in 5.
▫️There is an increase in breast cancer amongst women younger than 50
▫️#Breastcancer in younger women, especially pregnant or nursing mothers is more aggressive because of the surge of hormones.
▫️Many husbands have been the ones to first discover abnormal lumps in their wives breasts!

Today was such a fun & relaxing day picking out scents for @hilaryhuangweiqi’s upcoming wedding! She brought three of her favourite scents as a starting point for the room sprays she wants @thesmittencollection to make for her guests. I was able to find ALL of them in my fragrance supplier’s catalogue of scents and dupes. But Hilary wanted to elevate it and make it more unique! In all my 49 years I have never done anything fancier than a regular facial to my face, mainly because I was always worried about aesthetic treatments being too painful. 🙈

Happy to report this combo treatment was painless and comfortable (there’s just a light zingy sensation) and is an effective alternative to HiFu or Ultherapy (which i’ve heard can be a bit more intense). 🕺🏻 #ultherapy

🪩 @suchehwa_kazu is an expert with hair colour and was SO patient with my many questions and concerns about #goinggrey.

🪩 There are several approaches to #embracingyourgreys and I admittedly took the most high maintenance one. 😅

🪩 The easiest is to lighten the whole head at once and gradually work towards a shade that matches your natural greys.

🪩 Another is to grow out as much of your natural greys as possible (about 4 inches is a good place to start) - a process that could take a few months & getting creative with wearing hats and scarves to hide your multi-coloured hair.

🪩 But because the eventual look I envision is streaks of silver peeking through what was once my natural Asian black hair (apparently I am 50% grey now!), we decided to go with ash blonde highlights to start with at a 35% bleach rate. As more of my whites grow out we’ll increase the percentage of bleached hair & eventually we’ll get to the point where I can just grow out the whites and add low lights of black streaks to jazz things up. 👩🏼‍🦳🩶

Cooking is my love language! 👩🏻‍🍳💛

CRUSTED SALMON WITH CREAMY CAPERS SAUCE
4 boneless fillets
about 2 tbs bread crumbs
1 tbs black sesame seeds
salt & pepper
dried dill
3 tbs cream cheese
1 tbs capers
¼ cup milk
juice of ½ lemon
fresh dill
Carrot hummus (store bought)
1️⃣ dab each fillet with paper towels
2️⃣ drizzle some olive oil on the flesh side, season then sprinkle breadcrumbs & black sesame seeds
3️⃣ pan fry flesh side down for 5 minutes with some olive oil
4️⃣ transfer to the airfryer skin side up for 5 min at 190°C (crispy salmon skin is life!)
5️⃣ for the sauce, melt cream cheese in a pan. Add capers, lemon juice, milk & stir to combine until a thick sauce forms.
6️⃣ serve on a bed of store-bought carrot hummus (i cheated!) topped with the sauce & fresh dill with a side of fresh cucumbers, red onions & cherry tomatoes.
